Several Scottish fans were reported to have wished the British & Irish team to lose against the All Blacks in the 2017 Lions Tour. The fans are angry at their minority representation in the tour. There were alleged calls for Greig Laidlaw to start the game while some cheered the All Blacks on.
A section of the Scottish rugby side has been keeping up this momentum for a while now. Warren Gatland is lucky that the situation did not go beyond the current realities. There was public outcry up north when the Kiwi named just two Scots in the team for the Lions tour. The Welsh side were expected to have more representation but the recent results made the Scottish fans demand more.
Vern Cotter and his boys shocked Ireland and then fought it out against the French team in Paris. In the third weekend, they defeated their Welsh counterparts at Murrayfield. Yet, Gatland named just two with scrum half Laidlaw a replacement for Ben Youngs.
As the Scots finished above Wales in the Six Nations tournament, they demanded a decent representation if not greater. The west reminds the Scots of the 61-21 loss but it was not enough to douse the agitations.
Scottish fans cried online that not one of theirs was selected in the 23 players for the Eden Park affair. May asked that Laidlaw be given a chance for representation sake even though the player’s form was not at its best. There are many who opine that there are better scrum half in Scotland not to mention playing for the Lions.
Scotland’s real shot Stuart Hogg was out injured after his accident with Conor Murray, and it went bad from there. The team is great together, but when taken apart there is not much to look at. And the best reaction was hoping for a loss?
